Middle years homeschool field trips to Blandford Nature Center will immerse students in nature and are designed to help integrate Next Generation Science Standards while engaging students’ natural sense of inquiry. Each 90 minute program is offered from 1:30 to 3:00 pm, taught by our highly experienced, trained and educated staff and is geared toward children 11 to 13 years of age. (Children ages 5-10 are encouraged to join our younger years homeschool series!)
Tuesday, September 17: Rock On!
Investigation is key in this focused lesson on the geology of Blandford. Students will learn how to prepare soil for microscope observations, test and classify rock types, and discover how forces like erosion and deposition can affect the landscape around us.
Tuesday, October 22, 2019: The Genetics Project
Why do young animals look like their parents? Discover how genetic inheritance makes seeds share traits with their parent plants, and how this affects the diversity of the natural world. Students will complete Punnett squares and predict which characteristics will show up with as different plants that grow in our habitats!
Tuesday, November 19, 2019: Forces of Nature
Predators rule the skies at Blandford. How the adaptations of owls, hawks, and other raptors help them to function as powerful hunters? Meet Blandford ambassadors up close and personal, and explore how birds of prey communicate in the wild.
This series has 3 programs each lasting 90 minutes long for a special flat fee of only $25.00! The deadline to register for this program package is September 6th. There is a minimum requirement of 10 students, so be sure to tell other homeschool families about this great educational experience!
