Online pre-registration is required. Drop ins on the day of will not be accepted, due to program materials needing to be prepped in advance.

 

This advanced composting class by Wormies, a Grand Rapids composting business, is for those interested in learning about other applications for compost and a more in-depth approach to the soil science behind composting. Learn about bokashi—an anaerobic method of fermenting your food scraps to create soil embedment—amongst other complex vermicomposting and fermentation methods used to feed the soil and aid your plants. Optional--take home a bokashi setup to get started! 

 

Program is for adults and kids ages 10 and up with adult supervision.

 

This program is offered free of charge due to generous grant funding.  

If you would like to purchase one of the following, optional take-home items, please do so when you register, and you'll be able to pick up your item during the program.  A purchase is not necessary for program attendance.

 

Available for all composting programs:

Worms and vermicomposting supplies:

- 1/2 lb red wigglers with 2 gal of bedding for $35

- Rubbermaid bin, $30

 

Wormies Vermicompost: 

- 32 oz for $12

- 5 gal for $25

 

- mesh bag to make compost tea or extracts, $5 ea

 

Only Available for the Advanced Composting Class:

- Bokashi Bran 1/2 lb, $10

- Bokashi buckets and lid, $22

Please Note: This program will be held indoors. 

 

COVID-19 Information: As of January 1, 2023, face coverings are not required while participating in programs indoors or outdoors at Blandford. Blandford continues to monitor local COVID rates and reserves the right to reinstate masking requirements for staff, general visitors, and program participants of all ages, regardless of vaccination status, if community health concerns arise. Blandford will notify program participants if this policy changes before a scheduled program takes place. Participants should not attend a program if they show any signs of infectious illness, including cough, fever, headache, runny nose, vomiting or diarrhea.

Cancellation Policy
Notice must be received at least 7 business days before the scheduled program to receive a 75% refund. There will be no refunds issued after that time. Due to processing fees, full refunds are not available. All Community Programs will be held unless there is severe weather. Please come prepared for the elements; refunds are not available for weather-related conditions except in the case of severe weather. All Community Programs will have a registrant minimum. If the minimum is not met, you will be contacted by Blandford Nature Center and notified of your refund options.
