Join one of our Education Specialists for an evening of learning the calls of the different frogs who call Blandford their home. There will be a brief introduction to frog calls and habitats and will be followed by a hike to some of the vernal ponds and wetlands where we will most likely hear them! The last 15 minutes you will be invited to participate in a data collection experience for Frog Watch.
Frog Watch USA is a long-term frog and toad citizen science monitoring program whose data describe local species diversity, detect rare and invasive species, suggest shifts in species diversity, range and seasonal timing, and may serve as an indicator of wetland health! Citizen science programs are collaborations between scientists and volunteers that expand opportunities for scientific data collection while also providing access to scientific information for community members. By participating in this citizen science project, you may deepen your appreciation for the diversity of the frog and toad species, gain insight on the importance of protecting wetlands, and establish a closer relationship with the natural world.
