Join us in the forge to learn how fire, metal and a hammer come together to create a decorative S hook! Our experienced blacksmith will teach you a few tricks of the trade in this special WOMEN ONLY edition of our popular introductory blacksmith class. Topics covered will include forge safety, tools, and fire building, and you will have an opportunity to work on a first project. No experience necessary! This program is for ages 18 and up. Blandford Nature Center will provide safety equipment, including gloves and ear and eye protection.

This program is only for ages 18 and up.

Please Note: This program will be held indoors.  It is also recommended to dress for the weather - our forge is inside an unheated, drafty building. Long shirts and pants and heavy duty, closed-toe shoes are also recommended for your safety. We suggest non-synthetic clothing for protection from sparks. If you do not have non-synthetic clothing, we can provide a leather apron. Please also bring a water bottle with you.

COVID-19 Information: As of January 1, 2023, face coverings are not required while participating in programs indoors or outdoors at Blandford. Blandford continues to monitor local COVID rates and reserves the right to reinstate masking requirements for staff, general visitors, and program participants of all ages, regardless of vaccination status, if community health concerns arise. Blandford will notify program participants if this policy changes before a scheduled program takes place. Participants should not attend a program if they show any signs of infectious illness, including cough, fever, headache, runny nose, vomiting or diarrhea.
