Join Chris Swinson of Mycophile's Garden mushroom farm for an afternoon identifying some of the 1,000 species of mushrooms that grow in Michigan. We'll begin with a 1 hour lecture covering the basic terms, types, habitats, and physical characteristics of our local fungi. Heading outside, we'll spend 1.5 hours utilizing our newly acquired knowledge to search for and identify mushrooms and the characteristics needed to accurately describe, discuss, and identify them. Throughout the class we'll discuss the importance of using the scientific names when studying or discussing fungi, as well as how to identify toxic fungi, how to best prepare and consume wild mushrooms, and more! 
 
Chris will have mushroom grow kits for sale at the class.

This program is recommended for adults and teens ages 13 and up. All registered teens must be accompanied by a registered adult.
 

Please Note: This program will take place indoors and outdoors. In the event of severe weather, the program will be canceled and participants will be notified of their refund options.

 

COVID-19 Information: As of January 1, 2023, face coverings are not required while participating in programs indoors or outdoors at Blandford. Blandford continues to monitor local COVID rates and reserves the right to reinstate masking requirements for staff, general visitors, and program participants of all ages, regardless of vaccination status, if community health concerns arise. Blandford will notify program participants if this policy changes before a scheduled program takes place. Participants should not attend a program if they show any signs of infectious illness, including cough, fever, headache, runny nose, vomiting or diarrhea.

Cancellation Policy
Notice must be received at least 7 business days before the scheduled program to receive a 75% refund. There will be no refunds issued after that time. All Community Programs will be held unless there is severe weather. Please come prepared for the elements. All Community Programs will have a registrant minimum. If the minimum is not met, you will receive a call or email from Blandford Nature Center to either reschedule or receive a refund.
